1.  What happens during a class? 

  • Class starts with a warmup.

  • Then participants move freely to music to get focus and connect with their inner goddess/spirit/voice.

  • The instructor teaches techniques and drills belly dance movements.

  • Participants may learn a short combo.

  • Combos consist of layering movements which stimulate the mind to keep it sharp as in a memory game.

  • The instructor may teach a choreographed dance over several weeks to help students repeat movements for muscle memory.

  • Participants learn veil techniques in the studio.

  • Cool Down.

2.  What do I wear for class? 

  • Wear stretchy clothing such as yoga pants and tops so the instructor can see your movements and guide you to execute the movements properly to avoid injuries.

 3.  What do I bring to class?

  • Water to stay hydrated.

  • A hip scarf to enhance the beauty of your hip movements, but it’s optional.

  • Dance shoes if you do not want to dance in bare feet.

  • No socks should be worn to avoid slipping when moving on the dance floor.

  • If you want to learn silk veil techniques purchase a “silk” veil that measures 108”x45.” Google search to find one you like. The instructor has a few veils to use during class, but the veil is your dance partner and picks up your spirit, so it’s best to have your own.

  • A bright smile, your laughter, and an open-minded attitude.

4.  Who joins these classes?

  • Mostly Seniors but anyone is welcome.

  • All shapes, sizes, different nationalities of women.

  • Women who have challenges with joint limitations.

  • Women looking for a fitness program that connects to their feminine qualities.

 5.  Are the classes fast paced?  What if I am not in shape?

  • The class is slow to mid-tempo.

  • You do not have to be in shape or have prior dance experience.

  • The instructor modifies all movements and reminds participants to modify movements that do not feel right on their bodies.

  • There are breaks between drills and chairs available when one wants to sit.

 6.  How to Avoid Injuries?

  • If movements are not done correctly, injuries can occur.

  • The instructor emphasizes throughout class the correct posture to execute movements correctly.

 7.  What kind of music is played?

  • Egyptian, Arabic, Afro beats, classical, contemporary, urban and more.
